Holy crap! I don’t know exactly when it happened, but Eureka has crossed into Gold bestseller status on DriveThruRPG!

There are currently just 131 Gold products on the site, 0.61% of DTRPG’s huge library of titles. Crazy! But awesome.

Masks is now available in retail stores

Scott Martin, one of the designers and authors of Masks: 1,000 Memorable NPCs for Any Roleplaying Game, and the owner of the Crazy Squirrel Game Store, just emailed me with fantastic news: He now has copies of Masks in stock!

That means that your local retailer should as well — or if they don’t yet, they will shortly.

Masks makes a great gift for the holidays, and if you pick it up from your FLGS you’re entitled to a copy of the book in PDF for free, courtesy of our PDF guarantee.

If your local retailer doesn’t stock Engine Publishing products and you’d like them to, just let them know that they can order them from their normal distributor. All major distributors carry our products.

Masks and Eureka plain text versions now available

I just finished adding plain text versions of Masks and Eureka to the download packages available in our online store. These versions make it even easier to cut and paste NPCs from Masks and plots from Eureka into your adventure notes, and they’re ideal for use with text-to-speech software.

These files were requested by Engine Publishing fans — thank you for suggesting that we create them!

Additionally, I also updated the Masks PDF to correct a glaring and painful omission on my part: Despite reading the Masks manuscript many times, I somehow forgot to include John Arcadian’s bio in the back of the book. John was the art director, as well as a designer and author, for both Masks and Eureka, and he and his work deserve to be showcased. (John, I’m terribly sorry for skipping you — it wasn’t intentional!)

How do I get the plain text versions?

If you purchased Eureka or Masks direct from our store, just forward me your email receipt and I’ll generate a new download link for you. Unfortunately, our e-commerce system doesn’t do automatic updates.

If you bought the books on DriveThruRPG or RPGNow!, you should have gotten an automated email from their system with a link to download the new versions.

Lastly, if you picked up either book in print at your local retailer, on Amazon, or anywhere else that doesn’t automatically provide a free copy, our PDF guarantee has you covered. Just drop me a line and I’ll get you the new version.

What’s next for Engine Publishing?

I’ve decided not to release a large book in 2012. I want to try something different for our third book, and see where that leads me. So instead of one big book, I’m going to try to publish two (possibly three) smaller books in 2012.

As always, I won’t share details until these projects have gathered enough momentum to be unstoppable forces, but here’s what I can say for now. One is GMing-focused, and we’re almost to the point of inking a contract and starting work on this project. If all goes as planned, it will be out in print and PDF in time for GenCon 2012. The other book is not GMing-oriented, and is proving tricky to price out in a way that makes it affordable to produce and affordable to purchase.

Masks has sold over 700 copies

In a bit less than 4 1/2 months — less than two quarters of sales — we’ve sold over 700 copies of Masks!

Masks is scheduled to ship to retailers in the next 2-3 weeks, and should be on store shelves in time for Christmas shopping.
